The forthcoming Year’s Best SF 13 anthology (edited by David G. Hartwell & Kathryn Cramer) will have a Finnish short story in it, Johanna Sinisalo’s Baby Doll (first published in Finnish in 2002). Baby Doll was also published in French in the 2005 Utopiae anthology. Go Johanna!

It's a great story and we've happy to reprint it. It is featured first in the book.
By the way, I am of Finnish descent via my mother's side of the family with ancestors with last names such as Miettinen, Liukkonen, Louhelainen, and Hiltunen. My maternal grandmother's family comes from the vicinity of Kuopio, Finland.

I really like Baby Doll too. Creepy but great, and I keep hoping it will stay science fiction at least a while longer, but reality seems to be catching up, unfortunately.

Kathryn, nice to meet you here. I've been reading your blog for years. Are there more translated stories in the antho or was Sinisalo's the only one that was not originally written in English?

There is one other translation, "A Blue and Cloudless Sky" by Bernard Ribbeck which was translated from the Danish.
